Communicating with Post Moderns

I was referred to two lectures today delivered by Ted Donnelly earlier this year at the Trinity Baptist Pastors’ Conference.  I’ve just listened to both lectures consecutively and have been immensely blessed.  Donnelly’s two lectures were entitled Communicating with Post Moderns and provide both a helpful survey of postmodern thinking as well as practical exhortation as to how the church should respond.  He not only warns against ignoring the culture we live in all together whilst at the same time he confronts the subtle compromises he sees within the church and the blatant error of those in the emergent church movement.

One of my favourite lines from his lectures was when he said:

“We reach people because we’re different from them…because when they come in there’s a sense of awe, and reverence, and the transcendence of God, and holy fear.”

You can listen to both lectures by following the links below:

John Owen’s “The Mortification of Sin” Audio Download

Thanks to Lane Chaplin I’ve discovered that John Owen’s classic book “The Mortification of Sin” is now freely available to download in audio format.  It is a large download and I’ve yet to inspect the quality; however, head over to LibriVox and check it out.

Is the Dispensational Charge of “Replacement Theology” Accurate?

Kim Riddlebarger believes the common charge by Dispensationalists that the Reformed hold to “Replacement Theology” isn’t accurate and is unfair. In his recent lecture The Church as the Israel of God he argues the Reformed believe what he refers to as “Expansion Theology.”

Was Jesus a Myth? James White vs. Dan Barker

Recently, James White debated Dan Barker on the question “Was Jesus a Myth?”  You can download the audio (MP3) or you can watch the video of the debate.  If you don’t have time to watch the whole thing, take five minutes to watch this humorous objection by Dan Barker to James White for White quoting Barker’s published material.

Thanks to Apologetics 315 for the link to the audio.

On Being Missional, Reformed, and Foolish

R. Scott Clark blogged:

I spent Friday and Saturday in beautiful Traverse City, MI with the brothers and sisters of Redeemer PCA and with the presbyters meeting as the Great Lakes Presbytery (PCA). I gave two talk, preached once, and held and Sat AM Q & A session with the presbyters. The first talk was on the matter of defining the adjective “missional” and relating it to marks of the church. The second was on “The Joy of Being Reformed” and the sermon was on 1 Cor 1:18-21.

I’ve not listened to the above audio by R. Scott Clark, but am very much looking forward to sitting down with a nice brew of coffee and my iPod.

Homeschool Roundtable

Covenant Radio, hosted by William F. Hill, Jr., had another excellent episode earlier this week.  The episode was a roundtable discussion on the subject of homeschooling with Israel Wayne and James McDonald.  Homeschooling can be a controvserial subject, but I trust that at the very least this roundtable discussion will help challenge us all in regards to our committment to impart a Christian worldview and Christian doctrine to our children, not only in the arena of “school” but daily in the area of Family Worship.

Download the Homeschool Roundtable or subscribe to Covenant Radio in iTunes.
